Ilario stands at the precipice. What will collectors say as the world’s foremost modeler in 1:43 creates his first replica in 1:18?
It’s like Bob Dylan picking up an electric guitar in 1965…
And for his first 1:18 masterpiece, he has chosen a masterpiece to model. To wit, a 1949 Delahaye 175 S Roadster with coachwork by Saoutchik.
Ilario Chiera has been creating limited edition precision replicas in 1:43 scale since 1984. Now he is expanding his scope, so he can play to those who prefer to take in their models at 1:18 size.
Ilario has devoted his life to early 20th century classic cars – when cars were being created by the genius of individuals

Coachbuilder Saoutchik was at the top of his game when he got hold of this postwar Delahaye. Commissioning the work was the British bombshell Diana Dors (think of a UK version of Jayne Mansfield). Saoutchik’s coachwork is as voluptuous and glamorous as his client, who was only 17 at the time.
In 2010, this car as modeled by Ilario sold for over $3 million. This was among the last and the greatest of coachbuilt cars.

Ilario continues to rock on in his 1:43 scale model-making. TWO (2) more models are now available from Automotive-Art.com…
Just issued is a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Torpedo Saoutchik that won Best of Show at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The car is Dove Grey, with silver trim on the fenders, and a dark red lizard skin interior. Ilario has modeled it as it appeared when first introduced at the 1928 New York Auto Salon and to which it has been restored today.
Mercedes 680S as built by Saoutchik and as modeled by Ilario in 1:43 scale
Edition size is limited to only 50 models. An earlier version of the car by Ilario sold out all 120 models.
Just issued at the same time is a 1938 Voisin C28 Cabriolet. This car represents the last gasp by the brilliant and innovative Gabriel Voisin. It can be said about his dreams and talent, he only ran out of runway. Ilario has modeled sn53002 as it appears today and as presented at Pebble Beach in 2006.
