On a day that FCA announced latest demise of the venerable Viper, Aston Martin has capitulated to the clamor of rich car guys and will build them their Vanquish Zagato coupes.
Only 99, mind you… and then you’re cut off.
Thanks to “unprecedented customer interest,” Aston Martin has confirmed plans to build 99 of the Vanquish Zagato coupes. Initial deliveries are expected early in 2017.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato concept car debuted at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy in May 2016. Delighted members of the well-heeled promised to buy one if the concept became a road-faring reality.
All the body panels of this drop dead gorgeous body are carbon fiber. Elements of other Aston Martins appear in its design, like the side mirrors based on the One-77 and a rear profile borrowed from the new DB11. It’s like a greatest-hits album.
The interior is equally excellent. Carbon fiber appears in a herringbone pattern, alongside a touch of bronze and, if the buyer desires, aniline leather on the vents and rotary dials. Zagato’s Z is emblazoned on the headrests, and a Z pattern is stitched into the seat backs.
A 6.0 liter V12 percolates to brew 576 horsepower. For a GT that looks this good, you really wouldn’t want an hp less, would you?
This is the fifth time Aston Martin has teamed up with Zagato. The collaboration began with the DB4 GT racecar in 1960 and most recent had been the V12 Vantage Zagato in 2011.
