Porsche took first & second at Le Mans today, June 14. Nico Hulkenberg and the Porsche #19 team grabbed victory in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans race. This is the first win for Porsche since 1998. Audi had won 13 of the last 15, including the last five races.
Legendary Car Guy felt “humbled but exalted” by his accurate prediction of Porsche’s victory.
The race came down to a neck-and-neck battle between the Porsche 919 Hybrid and the Audi R18. All eight of the Porsche, Audi and Toyota LMP1 cars finished.
The win is the first for all three drivers of the No. 19 – Nico Hülkenberg, Earl Bamber, and Nick Tandy. Hulkenberg is the first active Formula One driver to win at Le Mans since Johnny Herbert in 1991. The Force India driver had just arrived from the Canadian GP.
The No. 64 Corvette C7.R took the vigorously contested GTE Pro class. A race-long battle between the No. 51 AF Corse, the Ferrari F458 Italia and the Corvette was building towards a dynamic crescendo. The Corvette had built a 5 lap advantage when it crossed the finish line.
