1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1-- In mid - 1968, Ford replaced the 427 c.i. V-8 with the new 428 Cobra Jet engine. Shelby American immediately created the GT500KR Shelby Mustang. For 1969 Ford decided to unleash its own high-testosterone pony car performance package to compete with the SS396 Camaro, Trans Am Firebird, Cougar Eliminator, and AMX 390 stallions. Looking every bit the street racer, replete with blacked out hood, vinyl graphics, upgraded suspension, high-end bucket seat interior, and available spoilers, wings and slats, the Mach 1 was a tough character.
