The 1976 Formula 1 season was the essence of Shakespearean drama. (And the basis of the 2013 Hollywood blockbuster: “Rush”). Niki Lauda was on his way to a 2nd consecutive championship. But at Nürburgring, he urged his fellow racers to boycott the 6th race, because of miserable safety arrangements. “No” say his fellow competitors; the race must be run. His prescience is rewarded by a fireball that nearly ends his life.
But wait! There’s more…
Niki returns after massive surgery, misses only two races. Only to lose by a mere 1 point to his polar opposite, James Hunt. Artist Tony Cairoli presents this hand-drawn diagram of the car Niki drove.
Cairoli hand draws diagrams of the most legendary racing cars of the past century. While they equal the precision and accuracy of CAD CAM technology, they are painstaking works of art exposing the genius of the cars.
