We have known the name for the Veyron successor since the last Veyron disappeared into a billionaire’s garage. But now we’re learning how more hyper a hypercar the upcoming Chiron will be.

Everyone’s already talking about it…

Everyone’s talking about the price!

Car magazine says the Chiron is going to run you just under $2.5 million, which is a cool $1 million more than the Veyron listed at. Jalopnik jokes that the new Bugatti is going to cost an entire Lamborghini more than the old Bugatti.

Before protesting that’s insane, Autoblog says hold your horses! No Veyron ever sold for as little as $1.5 mil MSRP, and the latter day Grand Sport Vitesse listed at $2.5 million.

Looking at it that way, getting better gas mileage, more comfortable ride and handling for about the same price, makes it a deal! Bugatti CEO Wolfgag Dürheimer expects the Chiron to surpass the Veyron in every conceivable way.

The Chiron is sticking with 16 cylinders arranged in a W formation. That’s good for 1500 horsepower which should deliver performance figures to make most Formula 1 cars jealous. You can reach 288 mph “assuming you can rent Nebraska” as Radovan Varicak jokes in Car and Driver.

Car magazine reports the engine will be improved by direct injection, increased boost pressure and at least two of its four turbochargers electrically powered.

500 Chirons will be made and Bugatti already reports reassuring reservations.  Other choices billionaires and chart-busting rappers will have among hypercars include the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder.
